India will celebrate August 23 as National Space Day in every year to mark the successful gentle touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon. “On August 23rd, India hoisted the flag on the Moon. From now onwards, that day will be known as National Space Day in India”, said PM Narendra Modi. He is also announced that the touchdown spot of the Vikram Lander on the Moon surface be known as the ‘Shiv Shakti’ point while the Chandrayaan-2 Lunar landing point will be named as the ‘Tiranga Point’.
The Indian Space Research Organization reached a significant milestone by successfully landing Chandrayaan-3’s lander and rover on lunar surface. After soft landing in south pole of the moon, India creates history, as she is the 1st country who land in south pole of Moon. Recognizing this achievement, India will be celebrated August 23th as the ‘National Space Day’ in every year. This will also encourage students and youths to consider a career in the aerospace industry. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and Jawaharlal Nehru, considered as the founding Fathers of the Indian Space programme.
