Ocean is a body of water that composes much of a planet’s hydrosphere where as Sea is that part of the Ocean that is partially surrounded by land. The Ocean covers about 71 percent of Earth’s surface and it is a huge body of saltwater. The term ‘Ocean’ comes from the Latin word’ Okeanos’ which means “great stream encircling” the earth’s disc. The law of the sea is a body of customs and international agreements by which governments maintain order.
Oceans regulate our climate, feed us and generate most of the oxygen we breathe. It is a tool for economic development to provide livelihoods, supporting sectors from fisheries and tourism to international level. International law includes internal waters, the contiguous zone, the territorial sea, the continental shelf, the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf, the high seas and the area. The Ocean covers 71% of the Earth’s surface and 37 out of 50 critical minerals can be found in the ocean.

The law of the sea is a body of customs, treaties and international agreements by which governments maintain order, productivity and peaceful relations on the sea. According to the sea law, marine areas are divided into five zones. These are: internal waters, contiguous zone, territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone. The sea law is an international treaty or agreement which establishes rules and regulations or guidelines for using the world’s seas or oceans. It maintains government order, productivity and peaceful relations on the sea.
